It was a golden year – 31 students corralled in a lovely old hall to study general agriculture for nine intensive months.  Most of us were teenagers.  Some, just out of school, were sons and daughters of farmers.  Others, like me, were townies fresh from a year of farm work and intent on careers in the countryside...

Welcome to YORK FILMS

YORK FILMS specialises in science programming, particularly space and astronomy – both as series and singles. For TV, our productions sell to networks and stations in more than 60 countries. With DVD and streaming, our titles are distributed in all major territories – Europe, North America, Japan, China, Russia, Australasia and Latin America.

Established in 1982 in the ancient city of York, the company moved to London in the nineties. The relocation allowed us to tap into the capital’s abundant talent and cutting-edge technology as production increasingly moved towards computer graphics (CGI) and special effects. As a result, we have achieved a global reputation for superb visual realisation, clear storylines and scientific accuracy.

Creating most of our CGI in-house, York Films has built a vast library of space and astronomy animations and some general science. YORK FIMS has two production strands. One is expensive prime-time shows such as the blockbuster 3 Minutes to Impact (2 x 52’), which won an Emmy, If We Had No Moon (1 x 52’), narrated by Patrick Stewart, and Eclipse (1 x 52’), a pan-European co-production with 12 TV networks. The second and equally important strand is informational and educational programming such as Spacefiles (26 x 10’), Stargazing (6 x 30’) and Nobel’s Greatest Hits (13 x 10’).
